bill snyder receives standing ovation

With the news coming out in recent weeks that Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder battling “very treatable” throat cancer, he’s become more beloved across the Big 12 than he already was. I didn’t think that was possible, but apparently it is.

Anyway, Snyder was in Kansas City on Thursday night to watch the Kansas State Wildcats take on the Baylor Bears in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals.

So, needless to say, when Snyder’s face popped up on the jumbo tron before the two teams tipped off at the Sprint Center, the crowd, not just the Kansas State fans, went absolutely nuts.

Snyder is an absolute warrior. He looked good and still seems to be enjoying himself for the next three weeks or so until the Wildcats open up spring practice on March 29th.

I’m not sure the Big 12, or any conference for that matter, will ever have another coach that is universally loved like Bill Snyder is. It’s a combination of his character, age, and successes on and off the football field that has endeared him to so many.

As much as we talk about “who’s going to replace him”, it’s moments like this when we need to step back and just enjoy what a special coach he is and how unique a moment like this was.
