Well, it’s been four days since Brad Underwood decided to leave Oklahoma State for Illinois, and the first interview for the Cowboys will be fan-favorite Doug Gottlieb. Gottlieb is set to interview with the University on Thursday, Heartland College Sports confirms.

I wrote extensively on Monday about why Gottlieb would be a great hire for Oklahoma State, which you can read here.

It’s not Gottlieb’s first flirtation with the Oklahoma State job. He expressed plenty of interest in the job after Travis Ford was fired last year, but was never granted a formal interview, and AD Mike Holder went with Understood instead.

On Sunday, Gottlieb told The Oklahoman, “My career path took me a different direction, but coaching feels much more comfortable to me than so many other things I’ve done in life. The timing in my life, the timing for the school and the fit for the program, the culture, the league, all that makes sense to me. And I think it makes sense to people who played with me, who supported me.”

Coincidentally, this news comes on the same day Fox Sports 1 announced Doug Gottlieb would be leaving CBS Sports to join their network in Los Angeles.

Gottlieb’s doesn’t have any traditional coaching experience but he did coach Maccabi’s USA Open Men’s basketball team last summer. But he played point guard at Oklahoma State and coaching runs in the family. His father, Bob, coached several years at the Division I level and brother Gregg is an assistant at Oregon State.
