According to multiple reports, John Currie is leaving as AD at Kansas State and will be taking over the same role at the University of Tennessee.

Curry has been the athletics director at Kansas State since May of 2009.

The Wildcats have had plenty of athletic success under Currie, including team Big 12 Championships in football (2012), men’s basketball (2013) and baseball (2013), 16 team NCAA tournament appearances in men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and baseball, and 50 individual Big 12 and nine individual NCAA Championships.

Currie was very helpful to Kansa State on the marketing and fundraising front as well. He helped create  the tag line of “Welcome to K-State” symbolizing the goal of providing The Best Fan Experience in the Big 12. Also, K-State supporters have pushed attendance to new records on Currie’s watch, while more than $200 million in total gifts have been raised for Athletics in Currie’s seven years.

Currie won the 2013 Bobby Dodd AD Award and a 2013 UnderArmour AD of the Year and served as chair of the Big 12 ADs in 2013-14.

With the loss of Currie, what does this mean for basketball coach Bruce Weber? It’s probably not a good thing. In general, with Bill Snyder facing health issues and getting up their in age, along with Weber’s struggles on the court in recent seasons, a shake up at the top of the Kansas State Athletic department could signal a trickle-down effect throughout the program.

Only time will tell.
