kliff kingsbury

Travis Haney of 247 Sports wrote a fantastic piece where he discussed to several athletic directors (without naming names) about Art Briles and whether or not the former Baylor coach is employable.

The general consensus was a big fat “no”. At least for the next couple of years.

But, in reading the article, one of the most interesting tidbits from Haney was this:

At Texas Tech, we’ve been told by source close to the program that a group of boosters wanted last fall to oust Kliff Kingsbury in favor of Briles. (There’s nothing to suggest that was taken seriously by the school’s administration, which still vocally supports Kingsbury).

Haney goes on to address what discussions were like regarding Briles at Houston, his alma mater and former employer.

But, that Texas Tech bit really stood out.

First off, while as Haney notes, there’s no proof the Texas Tech administration took this seriously. But, it does tell you that when a group of boosters came forward with an idea like this, there are clearly some big-time money folks who are currently not happy with the tenure of “Golden Boy” Kliff Kingsbury.

We’ve written about this in recent months and the angst and disappointment that Tech fans are finally starting to feel about Kingsbury’s on-field production. But, to want to turn to Art Briles so soon after the explosive sexual assault scandal? That says something.

In the end, the only certainty to take out of this: Kliff Kingsbury needs to win in 2017.
