Texas A&M brags regularly about its 12th man. Oh, if only Texas Tech could unleash its 12th, 13th and 14th men.
On a throwback Saturday, complete with retro uniforms and a recognition of venerable coaches and players, the Red Raiders sure could have used seven-time Pro Bowler Zach Thomas, College Football Hall of Famer Gabe Rivera and longtime NFL defensive coordinator Jim Bates, at least the versions of those men in their primes.
All three were back in Lubbock this weekend for various reasons, and I can imagine what might have been running through their minds as they watched their old college team in a 49-28 loss to Arkansas:
My kingdom for a playmaking defensive lineman or linebacker.
Arkansas mashed Tech for 438 yards on the ground Saturday, not because of anything Bret Bielema did or Kliff Kingsbury didn’t do last week.
