Tweener linebackers, like Sooners standout Erik Striker, are all the rage as coaches look to find ways to stop the spread.
Adam Rittenberg of ESPN (Insider content) writes that as football gets more spread out and becomes more about space, defensive coaches are using more undersized, hybrid linebackers like OU’s pass rusher extraordinaire.
Guys like Striker, who’s gained more than 20 pounds since showing up at OU at less than 200, often get lost in the shuffle in recruiting because they don’t fit a specific mold of linebacker of defensive lineman.
