A day after learning the walk-on quarterback Baker Mayfield‘s appeal to the NCAA for immediate eligibility was denied, Mayfield got some good news.
In a statement Tuesday, the Oklahoma athletic department confirmed that Mayfield’s appeal to the NCAA had been denied but said the NCAA had granted the school a waiver to exceed the scholarship limitation by one so that Mayfield could be placed on scholarship.
“The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department confirmed on Monday that Baker Mayfield’s appeal to the NCAA for immediate eligibility to compete during the 2014 season has been denied. The NCAA has granted permission to the university to exceed the financial aid limit by one so that Mayfield may be placed on a full athletics grant-in-aid,” the statement read.
