The day began with kooky Katy Perry on the “GameDay” set down in Mississippi, holding up a Trevor Knight photo sign and asking the OU quarterback to “call me.”
The day ended with TCU knocking the Sooners into the crowded abyss of highly ranked victims and the pop singer presumably chasing Bo Wallace.
A quarterback’s fame is fleeting. Maybe so is a defense’s. And a team’s national championship hopes.
The Horned Frogs popped the fourth-ranked Sooners 37-33 Saturday at Amon Carter Stadium. OU joined the fate of No. 2 Oregon (slain by Arizona), No. 3 Alabama (Ole Miss, led by Wallace) and No. 6 Texas A&M (Mississippi State). All were beaten on a college football weekend that turned upside down our notions of not just the national championship and Big 12 races, but exactly what kind of football team Bob Stoops has on his hands.
