Without the ‘baby blue jersey,’ Blake Bell is a more aggressive blocker these days

Charles Tapper loves the evolution he’s seen Blake Bell undergo since switching from quarterback to tight end.

“Blake’s come a long way from being real soft at the quarterback position, always having that baby blue jersey on,” the junior defensive end said with a laugh, referencing quarterbacks’ no-contact practice jerseys.

“Now he’s actually very aggressive, pushing people around. It’s a good sight to see Blake killing it at tight end.”

Bell started eight games at quarterback a year ago, with one of his worst games coming in an embarrassing 41-12 loss at Baylor. The Sooners and Bears meet again Saturday on Owen Field in another important Big 12 game and this time, Bell is primarily a big, physical blocking tight end.

“Obviously, you still think about it,” Bell said of last year’s loss to Baylor before quicking adding, “what happened last year’s in the past.
