Eyes on Texas: Horns fighting in-state perception battle with recruits

Losing a 2015 commitment isn’t exactly the way Charlie Strong wanted to kick off a big recruiting weekend. Sort of defeats the purpose.

Keivon Ramsey, a four-star defensive back from Converse Judson, told the recruiting website 247Sports on Thursday that he has backed out of his commitment to Texas.

Teenagers change their mind all the time, as hundreds more will do before signing day next February. Odd thing about Ramsey, though. He originally committed to Strong’s staff at Texas’ spring game. Then he suffered a knee injury during the Longhorns’ “Under The Lights” recruiting camp at Royal-Memorial Stadium in July.

At the time, Ramsey was rated the 11th-best safety prospect in the country.

Tests later revealed Ramsey had suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, a knee injury that has ruined his senior season at Judson.
