Baylor QB Jarrett Stidham announces commitment to program

I feel like every one of my posts lately are about Baylor. And then I realized, most of them are.

Well, this is some good news for Bears fans, as QB Jarrett Stidham, the 5-star QB from Stephenville, TX (Art Briles’ old stomping grounds) announced on instagram his plans to stay in Waco with the Bears.

This is huge news for the Bears as Stidham is likely to replace QB Seth Russell after this season. He already got some good run last season, completing nearly 69% of his passes with 12 touchdowns to only 2 interceptions. If you recall, Stidham was originally committed to Texas Tech, before flipping to Baylor fairly late in the process.

Now, it will be interesting to see how new interim coach Jim Grobe handles his personnel going forward. He’s a run-first, wishbone guy, that’s typically had a strong emphasis on defense. But, can he really change all that with such an explosive offense? I don’t think he will try to make any drastic changes to the playbook. But, that’s also assuming that Kendal Briles stays on as offensive coordinator.

There is reasonable outrage by some over keeping the rest of the staff outside of Briles, considering in the Pepper Hamilton report, the rest of the staff appeared to be just as guilty as Briles of a cover up. Then again, Grobe will have a hard time filling out an entire staff in 3 months.

I believe the staff will stay in tact, the offense will run basically as it did under Briles, and the Bears will win 10 games in 2016. The biggest question is: what can Grobe do, if anything, on the recruiting front for 2017 and beyond?
