Charlie Strong knows, but won’t say who starts at QB vs. Notre Dame

One of the most intriguing questions across the Big 12 this summer is, “Who is going to be the starting QB at Texas?” Well, unfortunately we’ll have to wait until Sunday night to find out.

In Monday’s press conference, head coach Charlie Strong was asked about his quarterback situation, to which he said, “I know who we’re gonna start. Sunday, we’ll see who runs out there.”

So, is it the veteran, Tyrone Swoopes or the new kid, Shane Buechele? Most have believed it would be Buechele who would ultimately get the nod, with Swoopes being used for his 18-wheeler package. But, as time goes on, you wonder if Swoopes, who has reportedly looked comfortable in new offensive coordinator Sterling Gilbert’s package, is slowly regaining the trust of the coaching staff.

Either way, it appears both will see the field, with Strong saying, “They’re both going to play. “Whoever the starter is, is going to be the starter.”

Regardless, Strong also added on the teleconference that he has, “two of the best quarterbacks in the country.”

Maybe he meant the county? As in, two of the best quarterbacks in Travis County, Texas? Easy slip, it can happen, right?

Regardless, while Strong knows, the media and fans won’t until just before the game on Sunday night against Notre Dame (unless this is just a stalling tactic). Sure, Strong could hold a presser later in the week to make his announcement. It would seem strange to hold off on his decision, considering the team would probably like to know who their leader is going to be ASAP. And, if he has already told the team, or tells them soon, there’s no doubt it will leak well before kickoff on Sunday night.
