In his weekly press conference on Monday, Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops announced that linebacker Tay Evans’ career is over because of concussions.
Most recently, Evans missed Saturday’s game against TCU after suffering a concussion in the second quarter against Ohio State. This was not the first concussion of Evans’ career, and after consulting with doctors, they advised the linebacker to stop playing football.
Coach Stoops added the decision against playing again was made last Thursday night by OU’s doctors and Evans’ family.

Evans won’t count against Oklahoma’s 85 scholarship limit because he will be placed on medical scholarship. The sophomore has been given the option to stay around the team by being a student-coach the rest of the way.
Evans had 10 tackles so far this season, while racking up eight tackles his freshman year.
Emmanuel Beal, who played well in Evans’ place against TCU, will be expected to carry more of the load, with Curtis Bolton and Jon-Michael Terry seeing more playing time as well.
