It’s not a matter of “if”, it’s only a matter of “when” discussions surrounding Charlie Strong’s job status was going to heat up. According to Chip Brown of Horns Digest, that conversation currently underway in Austin.
Brown says the original plan may have been to let Strong coach out the season, which wraps up on Friday against TCU. But, Texas officials met on Sunday and as is being reported by Brown, UT President Greg Fenves could be meeting up with Strong Sunday night or Monday morning, ahead of his 11 a.m. press conference Monday morning. The meeting would discuss a possible Strong departure, with the University still preferring he coach Friday against the Horned Frogs.
Of course, this speculation really ramped up following the team’s disastrous 24-21 loss to Kansas in Lawrence on Saturday. But, it was starting to heat up after Houston beat Louisville Thursday night and ESPN’s Brett McMurphy reported the big-money boosters were all in on Tom Herman replacing Strong.
