According to a report from Inside the League’s Neil Stratton, Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon will declare for the 2017 NFL Draft.

Mixon was a 5-star talent coming out of Freedom high school in Oakley, California and lived up to those expectations. As a freshman in 2015, Mixon had 113 carries for 753 rushing with seven touchdowns. Through the air Mixon had 28 receptions for 356 yards and four touchdowns.
He built on his freshman season to have an outstanding sophomore year, racking up 1,274 yards on 188 carries and 10 touchdowns. He also caught 57 passes for 538 yards and five touchdowns.
Those numbers would have been even more impressed had he not been sharing the backfield with Samaje Perine.
Mixon’s off-field incident from the summer of 2014 has been reported many times, regarding his punching of a female OU student at a local establishment. There have been mixed reports as to what that incident means for his NFL Draft prospects. Some believe he will go undrafted, others think it will hurt his stock, but his talent will outweigh the risk.
This report comes just two days after fellow Sooners’ running back Samaje Perine also announced he would be declaring for the 2017 NFL Draft.
Frankly, I think Mixon will end up getting drafted and will be a quality NFL player who will have success on the ground, while showing the ability to catch balls out of the back field and will also be used on special teams in the return game.
