Baker Mayfield, Mason Rudolph 2017 Heisman odds slightly decrease

There are no college football games for over 6 months, but 2017 Heisman Trophy odds are already well underway. Last month Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield had 11/2 odds to win the Heisman (place $2 to win $11). Those were the third-best odds in the country behind USC quarterback Sam Darnold and Louisville QB and defending Heisman winner Lamar Jackson.

Well, Darnold’s odds have skyrocketed up, while Jackson and Mayfield, along with Oklahoma State QB Mason Rudolph, have seen a decrease, according to Bovada.

So both Mayfield and Rudolph have seen their odds slightly decrease. Frankly, I think Darnold is overbought at this point. Also, NO chance Jackson wins it again this year. The Cardinals are going to take a step back as a team and Jackson only won it because of his red-hot start last season. That’s it. I don’t even think he should have won the award (Mayfield would have in my book).

There is decent value in Mayfield at 13/2, but I think Rudolph at 14/1 is even better odds. Oklahoma State has the easier non-conference than Oklahoma and if the Pokes, behind Rudolph and James Washington can win the Big 12 and possibly make the playoff, Rudolph will be all the rage, a la Brandon Weeden a few years ago.

We are a ways away from that actually happening, but in February it’s fun to dream, right?
