Latest NFL.com mock draft has Joe Mixon in 1st round

There’s no doubt the talent is there with Joe Mixon, it was always just a question of character. Just last week we wrote a piece about Mixon being one of 3 Big 12 players quickly rising in the NFL Draft.

Well the latest NFL.com mock draft by Bucky Brooks has Mixon being selected in the first round at No. 29 by the Green Bay Packers. Here was the analysis:

Imagine Aaron Rodgers playing with a David Johnson-like playmaker in the backfield. Mixon is an exceptional combo back with size, speed, power, and home-run ability.

There’s no doubt any team could use Joe Mixon’s abilities. And I’ve mentioned that I wouldn’t be shocked at all if a team late in the first round, with a solid organizational foundation (Patriots, Packers, Steelers) go with Mixon and believe their culture will win him over.

As has been noted several times, Mixon was suspended for the 2014 season after punching a woman in a Norman, Oklahoma restaurant soon after he got on campus before his freshman season. Video of the incident was released in December and it started the debate as to whether or not Mixon should go back to school for a year to let the video die down, or bolt OU and move on to the NFL.

Mixon was outstanding over his 2 seasons in Norman. In 2015, he rushed for 753 yards, averaging 6.7 yards per carry, while racking up 356 receiving yards for over 12 yards per carry. Last season Mixon rushed for over 1200 yards, averaging 6.8 yards per carry, while piling up 538 receiving yards for nearly 15 yards per carry.

Joe Mixon has the perfect blend of speed and power, while also having abilities to catch the ball out of the backfield and being able to be a return man.

Like it or not… I really believe he goes in the first round.
