4. Cornerback
As a school that claims itself as “DBU”, Texas might not want to look at the pass defense over the last few years. The Longhorns pass defense went from being ranked 11th in 2014 to 73rd in 2015 and finally falling to 102nd in 2016 (Ouch). The reason this group fell off a cliff? After 2014, Texas got extremely young at corner. Charlie Strong signed Holton Hill, Kris Boyd and Davante Davis in the 2015 class and they all saw action early. Even though they got off to a fast start, this group seemingly regressed over time. Whether it was a coaching staff shake up or just a lack of confidence, these three guys will need to step up in a big way this season. New cornerbacks coach Jason Washington will have to bring back the “D” in “DBU”, and it all starts in the Texas spring game on Saturday.
