4. Running backs
Ke’aun Kinner has graduated and the Jayhawks have to figure out how to replace the team’s leading rusher, who averaged a solid 5.3 yards per carry.
4-star freshman standout Dominic Williams won’t arrive on campus until June, so it’s time to see who else is in David Beaty’s arsenal on Saturday.
Rising sophomore Kahlil Herbert got some decent run last season, picking up 189 yards rushing on 44 attempts. He was injured for a few games in the middle of the year, but should be a bigger factor. Denzell Evans spent most of his time on special teams last year and only had 17 carries last season, but the Arkansas transfer has a chance to make his presence felt in the spring game.
Taylor Martin started 3 games last season and proved to have solid ability catching the ball out of the backfield as well, and maybe a guy like Deron Thompson has a chance to step up.
Last but not least, there’s JUCO transfer Octavius Matthews, who ESPN.com rated as a 4-star player, and is one of the highlights of the 2017 recruiting class.
