Former Tennessee running back Jalen Hurd announced Saturday that he will transfer to Baylor.
According to the Waco Tribune, Hurd visited Baylor’s practice several weeks ago and reportedly wants to play receiver.
In his Tennessee career at running back, Hurd rushed for 2,638 yards and 26 total touchdowns before leaving the Volunteers in the middle of an injury-plagued 2016 season. Hurd also caught the ball plenty out of the backfield, but did see a decrease in his receiving production over his three seasons in Knoxville.
In 2014, Hurd had 35 catches as a freshman for 221 yards and three touchdowns. By his sophomore season in 2015, those numbers were down to 22 catches for 190 yards with a pair of touchdowns. And in 2016, Hurd only caught 10 passes in his 7 games played for a total of 81 yards with a pair of touchdowns.
Hurd was always awfully big for a running back at 6’4”, 240 pounds, but by moving to wide receiver he now gives head coach Matt Rhule a nice big target on the outside.
The junior reportedly also visited Ohio State and Louisville before choosing Baylor.
Unfortunately, Jalen Hurd won’t be eligible until the 2018 season since he is not a graduate transfer.
It was a good Saturday for the Bears who received the news shortly after playing their annual spring game.
