TCU, Ohio State remove home-and-home for one game in 2018

The TCU Horned Frogs and Ohio State Buckeyes were previously scheduled to play a home-and-home in 2018 and 2019. But TCU and Ohio State have scratched that plan and will instead play one game in 2018 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

That game will be played on September 15th, 2018.

And as for TCU’s opening on the 2019 schedule, they’ve lined up a home-and-home with Purdue. The 2019 game will be played on the road, while TCU will host Purdue in 2029. Yes, you read that right. Who wants to bet that game ever gets played?

Overall, this is a win for the Horned Frogs. While they lose a true home game, which is always a nice boost for local businesses, the game will be played right down the road in Jerry’s World and will likely get a primetime slot.

Kudos to Gary Patterson and the Horned Frogs for willing to put tough games on the schedule to hopefully impress the committee. Plus, it’s not exactly a bad payday as both Universities will receive $5 million to play in the game.

Ohio State was likely in favor of this as it gives them a premiere match up in the premiere football stadium in America and a chance to shine in front of Texas recruits. The Buckeyes have recruited the Lone Star State well under Urban Meyer, especially in the 2017 class. OSU landed 5-star Texas recruits Baron Browning and Jeffrey Okudah in the latest recruiting class.

The game will mark the third straight year Ohio State will play an out-of-conference game against a Big 12 team. The Buckeyes played the Oklahoma Sooners last season and the two teams will be again this season in Columbus.
