Of all the programs in the Big 12 conference, I’d argue Texas Tech has the least amount of momentum behind it. But the Red Raiders got some good news on Friday when the nation’s number 1 JUCO prospect, wide receiver Stephen Guidry, announced his top 5 and included the Red Raiders.

Guidry was a former 4-star prospect who had once committed to LSU, and obviously the Tigers will do everything in their power to try and keep him home.
But this could be another fun LSU vs. Big 12 recruiting battle that could flip in Texas Tech’s favor.
The other teams on the list with Tech and LSU include Mississippi State, Arizona State and Oregon. If I’m a wide receiver with only a couple of seasons to impress NFL scouts, of those schools, I’m going to Texas Tech.
Sure you might have, OK fine, you do have, a better chance to win a national championship at LSU, but Arizona State and Mississippi State are in the same boat as Tech, with Oregon as an outlier. We’ll see if Willie Taggart can bring back the glory days of Chip Kelly in Eugene.
Also, Texas Tech could use a huge recruiting win like this. Texas Tech is not the worst program in the Big 12, but combining their struggles in recent seasons, Kliff Kingsbury arguably being on the hot season, and Iowa State and Kansas picking up the pace on the recruiting trail, it’s not a good scene.
Getting Stephen Guidry to commit to the Red Raiders would rejuvenate Kliff Kingury’s staff during the most important recruiting cycle since this group has been in Lubbock. If there’s no bowl game for Tech this fall and a lackluster recruiting class, I doubt this group sees National Signing Day in February 2018.
