The Sooners play UTEP in their season opener and then it’s off to Columbus, Ohio for a prime-time match up against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Meantime, Ohio State opened up its season on Thursday night against Indiana. While Ohio State’s game was not as big a softie as Oklahoma’s, it’s still Indiana. But if you listen to ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, also the former Ohio State quarterback, you’d think the 2017 Hoosiers are 2005 USC Trojans reincarnated with Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush and Steve Smith.
With Indiana leading Ohio State 21-20 late in the third quarter, Kirk Herbstreit gave Oklahoma some nice bulletin board material ahead of next week’s game, saying:
“You and I were talking at halftime, I said, you know, everyone’s going to look at these numbers and think, ‘what’s wrong with Ohio State playing Indiana and giving up all these [points].’ I don’t think Ohio State, from a passing standpoint, will play a better group, as far as a quarterback and a group of receivers, than who they face tonight, with Lagow and this group of receivers… including Oklahoma.”
My hope… Baker Mayfield shows Herby and the Buckeyes boys a good time next Saturday night.
