Texas LT Connor Williams tears meniscus, will undergo surgery

NCAA Football: Texas at Texas Tech

Not only did Texas end up losing the game to USC on Saturday night, but the Longhorns also lost one of their biggest pieces in left tackle Connor Williams. Williams left the game on Saturday night with an apparent knee injury and the news did not get much better on Sunday.

After an MRI on Sunday, Longhorn team doctors determined the left tackle sustained a sprain of the medial and posterior collateral ligaments in his left knee, along with a meniscus tear. The All-American is expected to undergo arthroscopic surgery on in the next week to 10 days.

But when the news was announced on Sunday evening, Williams remained optimistic about his future.

Williams was considered one, if not the best, tackle prospect in the country. NFL scouts reportedly love his size (6’5″, 315-pounds), and the fact that he is long, but agile.

When Connor Williams left the game on Saturday night, senior Tristan Nickelson slid over from right to left tackle with sophomore Denzel Okafor filling in for Nickelson on the right side. When we find out more from Tom Herman on what the plans are moving forward, we’ll let you know here on Heartland College Sports.

The good news is Texas has some time to figure out what they’ll do at the position. The Longhorns are off this weekend before opening up Big 12 conference play on the road against Iowa State on Thursday, September 28th.
