College GameDay comes back to Big 12 for Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma

NCAA Football: Michigan at Ohio State

After not going to a single Big 12 game in 2016, College GameDay is making up for some lost time. The popular ESPN show was in Fort Worth earlier this month for TCU vs. West Virginia and announced Sunday they will be in Stillwater next Saturday for Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma.

The Sooners and Cowboys are each sitting at 7-1 and are ranked #8 and #11, respectively. Four Big 12 teams are sitting at 4-1 (Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Iowa State and TCU) in conference play. The winner of this game will be a heavy favorite to land in the Big 12 championship game in AT&T Stadium in early December.

Oklahoma State is coming off a shootout 50-39 win over West Virginia in Morgantown on Saturday, while Oklahoma rolled Texas Tech at home 49-27.

Both teams came into the season with expectations of making the College Football Playoff. They both can still reach those goals, but neither team has any margin for error as they’ve each lost a game. Oklahoma State fell to TCU last month and Oklahoma was shocked by Iowa State earlier this month in a game they were favored by 30 points in.

Essentially, Saturday is an elimination game for the College Football Playoff. This is another example of what makes college football the best sport out there. Sure it has its flaws, but when one team’s dreams will be (un)officially put to rest in early November, it’s fun.

The Sooners lead the all-time series 86-18-7 and have won the past two meetings, 38-20 last season in Norman and 58-23 in Stillwater in 2015. Even with all the success Oklahoma State has had in recent seasons, they’ve only beaten OU twice since 2002. Oklahoma State won 44-10 in 2011, the season the Pokes reached the Fiesta Bowl and then in 2014, 38-35 in overtime.
