Oklahoma RB Rodney Anderson passes polygraph about rape accusation

NCAA Football: Texas Christian at Oklahoma

Just days after being accused of rape, Oklahoma running back Rodney Anderson has passed a three-hour polygraph test over his denial the accusations.

The test actually took place on Tuesday, one day after the allegations surfaced in Norman. The test also came at the request of Anderson’s attorney, who has said that his client has text messages claiming that the woman had contacted him after meeting the night of the alleged rape on November 16th looking for a relationship, which Anderson rejected.

The accusations come from a former Oklahoma student who reported to the police Monday that she just remembered the details of the alleged assault this past weekend after talking with a friend.

After she wrote in a petition “he knows where I live and I’m scared for my safety,” a judge granted her an emergency protective order.

As for the polygraph test, that was made public by Anderson’s attorney on Friday, who said,  “This week we have worked to demonstrate Mr. Anderson’s innocence. That work included a polygraph examination of Mr. Anderson. As expected, the results showed Mr. Anderson is honest and truthful in his denial of the allegations.”

But according to The Oklahoman, if Anderson is charged, the fact that he passed a polygraph test can not be put into trial. The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals ruled in 1951 in a rape case that neither the lie detector test nor a truth serum test has “demonstrated that degree of dependability to justify the courts in approving their use.”

But Anderson’s attorney could ask the district attorney to consider the results before deciding whether to file a charge. This news could also affect OU’s decision on if to suspend Anderson.

The sophomore running back led the Sooners this season with 960 rushing yards. Oklahoma plays the Georgia Bulldogs in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day in the College Football Playoff semifinal.
