Iowa State CB Brian Peavy returning for 2018 season

Iowa State may be losing a handful of players to graduation and the NFL Draft (Allen Lazard, Joel Lanning), but one of their key defenders and leaders announced on Tuesday he’s coming back for his senior season. Brian Peavy announced on Twitter he will be back playing for the Cyclones next fall.

Peavy finished the season 15th in the Big 12 conference with 88 tackles and was tied for 7th with 11 passes defended. He also finished the season with two fumble recoveries.

The junior’s best game came in the top 5 upset against TCU when he had seven tackles and also had an interception that was returned 70 yards. It was one of two interceptions for Peavy this season.

Also, in the Liberty Bowl, Peavy was targeted often and held his own against a high-octane Memphis Tigers offense, ending with seven tackles and two passes defended.

Peavy was named to the All-Big 12 second team and said two weeks ago he was “still 50/50” on whether or not he would return to school for next season. The Houston, Texas native also had a small dust up with the law when he was arrested for criminal mischief earlier this season.

This seems like the prudent move by Peavy on many levels as he can improve on his craft and his speed and strength, while also becoming and showing off his leadership skills as a senior.
