Former 5-star linebacker Ricky DeBerry to transfer from Oklahoma Sooners

One of the biggest prospects OU has landed is recent years is going to leave the University. Former 5-star linebacker Ricky DeBerry, a member of the Class of 2015, has decided to transfer, according to Sooner Scoop’s Carey Murdock.

The Sooners will not reportedly restrict where DeBerry can transfer, a move that has drawn a lot of criticism upon programs that have been strict in limiting their student-athletes.
DeBerry was ranked the No. 25 recruit in the entire county by Scout.com and No. 3 linebacker in the country. He chose Oklahoma over Alabama, Auburn, Michigan State and Texas A&M. DeBerry redshirted in 2015, got one start in 2016 at linebacker and was moved to H-back this season, but did not get any playing time. He’s expected to graduate in May so he can transfer and be ready to play immediately, with two years of eligibility remaining.
It’s the third transfer this offseason for OU, with suspended safety Will Sunderland heading to Troy and running back Abdul Adams off to Syracuse. None of the three transfers will have any real affect on the Sooners in 2018.
