Keenan Evans day-to-day with toe injury

Texas Tech basketball fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as head coach Chris Beard said that Keenan Evans is day-to-day with a toe injury suffered against Baylor on Saturday.

Evans left the game in the first half against the Bears, who ended up beating the Red Raiders 59-57 in Waco, ending Texas Tech’s seven-game winning streak. The senior has blossomed into a star and the leader for the Red Raiders, averaging 18.2 point per game, with 3.4 assists per game and 3.0 rebounds per game. But during the team’s winning streak, Evans was averaging 24.6 PPG, while shooting 53% from the floor.
The Red Raiders have a couple of days off before playing in Stillwater against a struggling Oklahoma State team on Wednesday. But then, it’s the big showdown in Lubbock against the Kansas Jayhawks. KU beat West Virginia on Saturday, which combined with Tech’s loss, pulls the Jayhawks into a tie for first place in the Big 12 (10-4) with the Red Raiders. College GameDay will be in Lubbock for the first time ever and the atmosphere should be electric, as Tech tries to become the first team not named Kansas in 14 years to win the Big 12 conference.
The Red Raiders should not overlook the Cowboys, who have beaten Texas and Oklahoma at home, but the focus for Evans should be to be healthy for Saturday’s big showdown between the two Big 12 heavyweights.
