Kansas head coach David Beaty woke up to some disappointing news on Sunday morning. Defensive lineman Isi Holani was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early Sunday morning, as reported by KUSports.com.
The police report says Holani was brought in by Lawrence, KS police at 2:19 a.m. and then released on bond at 12:42 p.m. Sunday. Holani is a JUCO transfer and played in 11 games in 2016, while recording 11 tackles, including two for loss. But the 6’3”, 325-pound senior missed most of last season with a knee injury, but he was granted a medical redshirt and is eligible to play again this fall.
At the time, head coach David Beaty told KUSports.com that while he was upset to lose Holani last season, he was happy to get him for another season, saying, “For the future, it’s really good, but for right now, I feel bad for the kid, because he’s come a long way. I thought it was going to be a really big year for him. But he’s got some time left. I think it’ll only help him as we move forward.”
KU limited its comments on Sunday after the arrest, simply stating, “We are aware of the situation. We are currently still collecting all of the details. When that process is completed, we will have further comment.”
