Mike Stoops Statement: Wishes ‘Nothing but Continued Success’ for Oklahoma Football

NCAA Football: Florida Atlantic at Oklahoma

One day after getting fired by the University of Oklahoma, defensive coordinator Mike Stoops released a statement on Twitter.

OU gave up 500 yards of offense to Texas on Saturday, the same UT offense that scored just 10 points against Kansas State the previous week. Stoops has been enemy No. 1 for a long time by the Sooners fan base and it appears like the disastrous defensive performance against their biggest rival was the final straw.

It’s been a rough go of it so far this season for Stoops and his defense, which is littered with four and five-star players at every level of the defense. The worst stat for this side of the ball in Norman is in the red zone. The Sooners rank second to last nationally (Power 5 teams only) in red zone defense, with opponents scoring a touchdown 86% of the time against OU.

Also, here is what Lincoln Riley had to say this morning on his decision to fire Stoops.
