Texas Longhorns Have Sixth-Best Odds to Win National Championship

With the Texas Longhorns back into the Top 10 of the AP Poll, the hype train might be getting a little bit out of hand. Maybe? News odds were released on Monday morning showing that it’s the Longhorns with 20/1 odds to win the National Championship. That seems very high, especially since they have no wiggle room with the loss to Maryland in Week 1. But not only does it seem high, it’s the sixth-best odds of any team in the country.
Updated odds to win the CFB Championship (@betonline_ag):
Alabama -130
Clemson +450
Ohio State +500
Georgia +700
Notre Dame +1000
Texas/Washington +2000
Michigan/West Virginia +2500
Oklahoma/Penn State/Wisconsin +3300
UCF +4000
Miami +5000
Colorado/Florida/LSU +10000— OddsShark (@OddsShark) October 8, 2018
It just all feels like… a bit much. Even West Virginia with the seventh-best odds? Although WVU could stumble, say this weekend on the road against a solid Iowa State team, win out and still have a chance. Texas, on the other hand, cannot suffer another loss, or it’s over. There is no chance a two-loss Big 12 team makes a College Football Playoff. Hell is more likely to freeze over.
But for now, it appears Las Vegas is hanging its hat on the Texas Longhorns to potentially be the team to represent the Big 12 Conference in the College Football Playoff.
