Doug Meacham Fired as Kansas Jayhawks Offensive Coordinator

NCAA Football: Texas Christian at Baylor

Kansas Jayhawks head coach David Beaty announced on Wednesday that he had fired offensive coordinator Doug Meacham.

“I appreciate Doug and all the work he put in during his time at Kansas,” Beaty said in a release. “None of us are satisfied with the progress we are making on the offensive side of the ball. We hope that with this change we are better able to put our players in the best position to be successful.”

Beaty went on to add that he would have the final say regarding “in-game play calling.”

Meacham was hired prior to the 2017 season, coming from TCU where he was the co-offensive coordinator.

Last season, Kansas ranked last in the Big 12 in total offense and scoring offense. This year, KU is eight on both categories, but ranks last in the Big 12 in 3rd-down conversions and is 7th in red zone offense.

The Jayhawks have bounced around at quarterback as well, with Peyton Bender, Miles Kendrick and Carter Stanley all seeing significant playing time under center.

The Jayhawks are off this weekend and will be back in action October 20th when they play the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
