Top 25 Returning Big 12 Baseball Players, No. 1: Josh Jung, Texas Tech IF

Josh Jung Texas Tech Baseball

He’s the best player in the Big 12 Conference and there’s no doubt about it. When Josh Jung steps on to the field, a clinic is about to be displayed.

Jung was rightfully named Big 12 Conference Preseason Player of the Year. He earned All-American honors in five publications, was unanimously voted to the All-Big 12 First Team in 2018 and was all over the national NCAA rankings in various statistical categories.

The San Antonio MacArthur product isn’t just a great hitter though. He plays the hot corner, the toughest position in baseball. Jung is a five-tool player. His cycle against New Mexico represents a demonstration of hitting for power and for average. He can field and throw. His four stolen bases in 2018 represent the fact that he can run.

In 2018, he produced 35 extra-base hits, including 12 home runs and six triples The 6-foot-2, 215 pounder crossed home plate 69 times while bringing in 80 more runs. With a .491 on-base percentage, he’s a pitching coach’s worst nightmare.

Josh Jung is the best returning player in the Big 12, possibly even the NCAA. He will be a first-round draft pick and likely in the top 10.
