Did Brock Purdy just find his new No. 1 target to replace Hakeem Butler? It’s possible.
La’Michael Pettway, who spent the last three years at Arkansas, announced his commitment to Iowa State on Monday afternoon, picking the Cyclones over the Auburn Tigers.
Pettway led Arkansas with 30 receptions and 499 receiving yards last season, while scoring four touchdowns. Like Butler, he has big-play ability, averaging nearly 17 yards per catch in 2018.
And it wasn’t just Butler who left the program for the NFL, where he was taken by the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth round, but veteran Matthew Eaton graduated as well.
Iowa State’s leading returning receivers are Deshaunte Jones and Tarique Milton, who combined for nearly 80 catches and 800 yards. Butler racked up over 1300 yards last fall with a ridiculous 22.0 yards per catch. If Pettway can just recapture a little bit of what’s been lost, Brock Purdy and the Iowa State offense will remain in much better shape than what was predicted just a few days ago.
