TCU Names Alex Delton Week 1 Starting Quarterback

Gary Patterson has named his starting quarterback for Week 1 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and he’s Kansas State transfer Alex Delton. Patterson also said said true freshman Max Duggan will get reps in the first quarter.
Delton was part of a quarterback competition that was six deep back at Big 12 Media Days in mid-July, but came down to to Delton and Duggan as of a couple weeks ago.
Delton appeared in seven games in 2017 and 2018 with the Kansas State Wildcats. During his career in Manhattan, he racked up 1,202 passing yards, 868 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns (11 rushing). Delton initially transferred to UTEP after Bill Snyder retired, but then changed his transfer decision to TCU.
As for Duggan, he’s the highly-touted four-star prospect from Council Bluffs, Iowa. He entered the program early and chose TCU over offers from blue bloods like Notre Dame, Georgia and Penn State.
Delton will be the third different Week 1 starting quarterback for the Frogs in as many seasons. Shawn Robinson, who began the 2018 season as TCU’s starting quarterback, transferred to Missouri over the offseason.
TCU opens the season vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
