Patrick Mahomes Purchases Block of Texas Tech Season Tickets For Community Outreach

NCAA Football: Baylor vs Texas Tech

The reigning NFL MVP continues to prove that he’s not only one of the best players in the league, but he may also be one of the best guys. According to Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt, Patrick Mahomes has purchased a block of season tickets to the Red Raiders football games and will use them for community outreach. Per Cassie Carlson, who hear the comments on The Kirby Hocutt Show on Double T 97.3 FM, Mahomes is also considering an event in Lubbock around spring ball.

Mahomes is now the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs where he won the league’s top award after throwing for 5,097 yards with 50 touchdowns to 12 interceptions.

During his career at Texas Tech, he threw 93 touchdowns to 29 interceptions, with over 11,000 yards, while completing 63.5%.

Mahomes’ most impressive performance came on On October 22, 2016, when he set multiple NCAA, Big 12, and school records in a 66–59 loss to Oklahoma at home. Mahomes broke the NCAA FBS records for single-game total offense with 819 yards. He also tied the NCAA record for single game passing yards with 734. He fell one short of the record for most attempts at 88. Overall, the game set NCAA records for most combined yards of total offense with 1,708 combined passing yards, and total offense by two players (Baker Mayfield was the other). The 125 combined points are the second most all time involving ranked teams.

Unfortunately, Tech could never turn Mahomes’ incredible talent into wins, going 12-13 in his two seasons as the starter in Lubbock. But it’s always nice to see a star in any sport not forget their roots and give back to a community that helped build them.
