Sure, September of 2019 isn’t even over, but there are already notable college football coaches on the hot seat. The biggest names are Jim Harbaugh at Michigan and Willie Taggart at Florida State. Both have their teams off to slow starts and fan bases are already starting to grumble.

And while there are no openings at either school, that doesn’t stop Las Vegas and other oddsmakers from putting together odds as to who is most likely going to potentially replace both coaches, if and when that time comes.

And in the case of Florida State, two Big 12 names are on the list: Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy and Iowa State’s Matt Campbell.

Matt Campbell               5/1

Urban Meyer                 7/1

Josh Heupel                  8/1

Michigan Wolverines Head Coach in Week 1 2020

David Shaw                   3/1

Bronco Mendenhall        7/2

Kyle Whittingham          4/1

Dino Babers                  5/1

Urban Meyer                 7/1

Mike Gundy                  7/1

Luke Fickell                  8/1

*Note: Coach must be replaced for action.

Mike Gundy on both lists is surprising. He’s made it pretty clear that he is as content as he’s ever been at Oklahoma State and seems to be at peace with the idea he is, and will always be, a Cowboy for life. And is this the time in his career he wants to start over? Especially when there will be no honeymoon in a place like Tallahassee or Ann Arbor. It seems very unlikely to me.

As for Matt Campbell, he continues to sign contract extensions in Ames and has proven his loyalty to the program. Is he really going to ACC country where he has no familiarity? And then, Michigan?! He’s an Ohio boy! Yea, not happening. But that didn’t stop Michigan fans from lobbying for Campbell on social media last week after the Wolverines lost to Wisconsin.

As for the rumors, such is life in college football.
