AP Poll Week 6: Oklahoma State Joins Oklahoma, Texas in Top 25

NCAA Football: Texas Christian at Baylor

The latest AP Poll was released on Sunday afternoon and the Big 12 Conference has three teams ranked with the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma State Cowboys.

After Oklahoma beat up on Texas Tech 55-16, the Sooners stayed in the No. 6 spot this week. Meantime, the Longhorns held at No. 11 after being idle this past weekend. Kansas State jumped into the Top 25 this past week, but dropped from the rankings following their loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday. That allowed the Pokes to move into the Top 25 at No. 21. K-State stilled received one vote this week. And the only other school receiving votes is the Baylor Bears who picked up a thrilling win over Iowa State at home.

The fear for the Big 12 is that the second tier of teams will beat each other up, with maybe one of them being ranked between No. 20 and No. 25 before that team loses, another one hops in, and around and around we go. This may make the Big 12 appear to be simply Oklahoma, Texas and … the rest. I don’t believe that analysis would be fair, but any reason for some national pundits to give the Big 12 some flack many of them will gladly take.
