Texas Tech QB Alan Bowman to Redshirt in 2019

NCAA Football: Houston at Texas Tech

Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman has been out since early in the season after he injured his shoulder against Arizona. And Texas Tech fans should not expect to see Bowman suit up the rest of the way.

Head coach Matt Wells announced Monday that Bowman would be redshirting for the 2019 season. Bowman could technically play in one more game due to the new redshirt rule allowing four games, but it seems unlikely at this point.

Wells said on Monday morning, “That’s where we sit with Alan. Moving forward, he’ll be involved, he’ll be in the meetings, he’ll be at practice. We’ll see where it takes us as the season goes on.”

Bowman threw for 1,020 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions in three games this season. In his place, junior Jett Duffey has been better than expecting, throwing for for 1,774 yards and 10 touchdowns with two interceptions, and has added 127 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

It was also announced that freshman QB Maverick McIvor, who has been dealing with injuries as well, would also redshirt this season.

The Red Raiders face TCU this weekend before wrapping up the season with Kansas State and then Texas.
