Lincoln Riley Leads Five Big 12 Coaches Listed With Odds to be Next Dallas Cowboys Head Coach

As the Oklahoma Sooners try to lock up another Big 12 Championship and fight for a spot in the College Football Playoff, Lincoln Riley’s name is circling again for a big time job, the Dallas Cowboys.
After the Cowboys went to Foxboro and lost to the New England Patriots on Sunday, the heat is on their head coach Jason Garrett hotter than ever before. The team is 6-5 despite having some of the best talent in the NFL.
So with Las Vegas now believing, based on the odds, that Jason Garrett is likely to be fired, here is how the oddsmakers are looking at who will be the next head coach in 2020, according to BetOnline.ag.
There are several Big 12 names on there, with Lincoln Riley, at 5-1, given the third-best odds behind Urban Meyer and Josh McDaniels. But other Big 12 longshots include Tom Herman (33/1), Mike Gundy (50/1), Matt Rhule (66/1) and Gary Patterson (80/1). Heck even Bob Stoops came in at 100/1.
This report comes nearly one year after it was reported that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys have “an affinity” for Lincoln Riley.

Needless to say, when the biggest job in football, at any level, becomes open, the rumors are going to be rampant.
Frankly, I love Jerry Jones getting some love at 500/1. Boy would that be a freakin’ hoot.
But I would not put anything past Jerry Jones. He can be a wild card and make a totally outside-the-box hire. Honestly, I’d be Rhule’s odds ahead of anyone but Lincoln Riley’s in terms of Big 12 coaches. Tom Herman is about to go 7-5 or 6-6. Gary Patterson isn’t going anywhere and neither is Mike Gundy. But Rhule has the NFL bug. He spent a season with the Giants and the past two offseasons he’s been linked to openings with the Colts and Jets. Oh and now he’s got a 10-1 team ranked in the Top 15.
I don’t think it’s likely, but, yes, I’m saying there’s a chance!
