College Football Playoff Rankings Week 15: Oklahoma, Baylor Both Move Up Into Top 7

NCAA Football: College Football Playoff-Selection Sunday

The final week of College Football Playoff rankings are out before Selection Sunday. This gives us an idea of where the committee thinks each team with a chance at the Playoff stands before Championship weekend.

For the Big 12, the Oklahoma Sooners moved up one spot to No. 6, while the Baylor Bears are now sitting at No. 7. The good news for the Big 12 is that Oklahoma State also stayed in the Top 25 after a loss to OU, coming in at No. 25.

Let’s take a look at the full rankings below and then get to some analysis heading into the final weekend.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF RANKINGS WEEK 15

  1. Ohio State (12-0)
  2. LSU (12-0)
  3. Clemson (12-0)
  4. Georgia (11-1)
  5. Utah (11-1)
  6. Oklahoma (11-1)
  7. Baylor (11-1)
  8. Wisconsin (10-2)
  9. Florida (10-2)
  10. Penn State (10-2)
  11. Auburn (9-3)
  12. Alabama (10-2)
  13. Oregon (10-2)
  14. Michigan (9-3)
  15. Notre Dame (9-3)
  16. Iowa (9-3)
  17. Memphis (11-1)
  18. Minnesota (10-2)
  19. Boise State (11-1)
  20. Cincinnati (10-2)
  21. Appalachian State (11-1)
  22. USC (8-4)
  23. Virginia (9-3)
  24. Navy (9-2)
  25. Oklahoma State (8-4)

So let the debate begin: Should a one-loss Oklahoma or Baylor as Big 12 Championship leapfrog a one-loss Utah as a Pac-12 Champion? No matter who wins, the Big 12 Champion will have a better win this weekend than Utah, who is playing Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship on Friday night.

Utah currently has zero Top 25 wins. Oklahoma has two. Baylor has one. Of their losses, Baylor’s is the best, followed by Utah’s and Oklahoma’s. But how you lost has to be a factor as well. Baylor blew a huge lead against OU, which keeps getting cited, however if you make that argument, you can also maintain that, well, “they had a huge lead”. Utah lost to USC who was playing its third-string QB and then OU lost on the road to four-loss Kansas State, who I was mildly surprised was not ranked this week.

What could also be interesting is if Georgia beats LSU by a slim margin. Does the committee go with two SEC teams?

But all Big 12 fans should be locked into the Pac-12 title game on Friday night. Root for Oregon. But if nothing else, root for Utah to not blow out the Ducks. That would not be good for either Big 12 team come Sunday.
