Baylor Bears fans can rejoice as fan and player-favorite assistant Joey McGuire is returning to Baylor and will be a member of Dave Aranda’s coaching staff.
The news was first reported by David Smoak on Wednesday evening.
I’ve learned & confirmed @CoachMcGuire_BU will remain at #Baylor and be a member of @CoachDaveAranda’s staff. McGuire had drawn interest from various Power programs including OU and Texas. #CFB #NCAA #SicEm McGuire was Asst. HC under Matt Rhule, interim when Rhule left for NFL.— David Smoak (@DavidSmoak) January 23, 2020
Ever since Baylor hired Dave Aranda last week from LSU, questions had surfaced as to what his plan was with McGuire, who was a popular pick to fill the position.
McGuire, the assistant head coach and defensive ends coach under former head coach Matt Rhule, will be starting his fourth season with the program. Garrett McGuire, McGuire’s son, will be a redshirt junior quarterback at Baylor in 2020.
McGuire came to Baylor after an incredible run as head coach at Cedar Hill High School in Texas. He led the Longhorns to three state championships in 14 seasons, including back-to-back titles in 2013 and 2014.
