Iowa State QB Re-al Mitchell Enters Transfer Portal

Iowa State redshirt freshman quarterback Re-al Mitchell announced on Saturday morning that he will enter transfer portal.
Mitchell announced the news on Twitter and wrote in part, “I’m sorry I was not able to have the opportunities to make you all proud.
Excited to see where the Lord leads me🙏🏽.

Mitchell came to Ames as a highly-touted prospect out of California, picking Iowa State over Arizona, Illinois, Kansas State and others, but later in the recruiting cycle Brock Purdy announced he would be joining the Cyclones. Mitchell redshirted in 2018 when Purdy burst on the scene and became the clear leader of the program. This season, Mitchell did see some playing time, participating in five games this past season, racking up 100 rushing yards and a touchdown, while completing two of four passes for 14 yards.
Matt Campbell’s team currently has three scholarship quarterbacks in Purdy, along with incoming freshmen Aidan Bouman and Hunter Dekkers.
