Following the surprise retirement of Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio this week, rumors are swirling as to who might be the next head coach of the Spartans.
Of course, a name that has been mentioned is Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell. Campbell is from Big Ten country and it’s not shocking his name gets tied to a big job like this in that conference, but according to the Des Moines Register, Campbell is staying with the Cyclones.
In four seasons at Iowa State, Campbell has compiled a 26-24 record, but since going 3-9 in his first season at Iowa State, the Cyclones are 23-15 and have several Top 25 wins during that span.
Campbell signed another extension late in the 2019 season with the Cyclones, but it won’t prevent these rumors and reports to continue to circulate upon an opening of this magnitude. Campbell also had his name tied to the opening at Florida State earlier in the 2019 campaign.
But for Cyclone Nation, another sigh of relief as Campbell continues to reaffirm his passion for Iowa State and the Ames community.
