NCAA Tournament Will Not Include Fan Attendance Due to Coronavirus

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Greenville Practice

The NCAA has announced that no fans will be allowed at the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

NCAA President Mark Emmert released a statement on limiting attendance at NCAA events, saying in part, “Based on advice and my discussions with the NCAA Board of Governors, I have made the decision to conduct our upcoming championship events, including the Division I men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, with only essential staff and limited family attendance. While I understand how disappointing this is for all fans of our sports, my decision is based on the current understanding of public health.”

The Big 12 Tournament is still planned as scheduled, with the only difference thus far is media members not being allowed in the locker rooms after games.

The NCAA has said it is also advising against sporting events in general being open to the public.
