Big 12 Basketball Tournament Stays Put in Kansas City Through 2025

NCAA Basketball: Oklahoma State at Texas Tech

It is not often that you get do overs in college sports, but it appears that Kansas City, Missouri will get one. The Sprint Center has been the host of the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament since 2010 and was scheduled to remain there until 2024. But to due COVID-19, the Men’s tournament was cancelled along with the rest of the college basketball season. And instead of losing out on a year, the Big 12 decided to add another season on through 2025.

The same goes for the women as well. The Big 12 Women’s Basketball Tournament has been held in Oklahoma City over the last few years and 2020 was supposed to be their first tournament in Kansas City since 2012 in the Municipal Auditorium.

In a statement on Friday, Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said “We were all looking forward to having our basketball championships back together in Kansas City in 2020. While the pandemic didn’t allow that to happen, this extension provides an additional year for our institutions and fans to take part in the Big 12 basketball atmosphere that has become synonymous with Kansas City.”

While I have still yet to make my way up there for a tournament, the KC Power and Light District has become a massive street party over the years as many Big 12 fans gather around and enjoy the fun. I just hope next year our own Pete Mundo and Matthew Postins can enjoy the fun due to missing out this past season.
