Texas Longhorns Land Two Four-Star Defensive Backs in Class of 2021

NCAA Football: Texas at Southern California

Texas’ secondary is getting a huge boost in its Class of 2021 and it comes with strong representation from the Dalls area.

Kimball cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem and Kennedale safety JD Coffey III announced their verbal commitments to the Longhorns on Monday afternoon via videos on Twitter.

Ibraheem (6-1, 175 pounds) is a four-star prospect, according to 247Sports.com. Ibraheem received 34 scholarship offers and also considered defending national champion LSU and Georgia.

Coffey (6-1, 185 pounds) is also a four-star prospect and also considered LSU, Oregon and Washington.

11 of Texas’ 13 current commits in the cycle play at Texas high schools. Also with this strength in the secondary, it is starting to remind me of Tom Herman’s 2018 recruiting class that might have been one of the best secondaries ever recruited in a single cycle in terms of rankings. That class featured Caden Sterns, B.J. Foster, Jalen Green and DeMarvion Overshown, all of whom were listed as Top 50 players nationally.

With the Longhorns’ big day, they now rank No. 9 in the 247 National Rankings and are ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 ahead of the Baylor Bears.
