Texas Longhorns Aiming for 50% Capacity at Football Games

NCAA Football: Kansas at Texas

While some are questioning whether or not college football is going to be played this fall, the University of Texas says it plans to host football games this season at 50% capacity.

In an e-mail to season ticket holders on Monday, athletic director Chris Del Conte said the school is working closely with Gov. Greg Abbott’s office and is following state guidelines on social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Big 12 has not yet said if it will duplicate moves by the Big Ten and Pac-12 to play only conference games.

Texas’ Royal-Memorial Stadium holds around 100,000 and even with limited capacity, the school said it expects to offer all season-ticket holders a chance to get tickets.

Texas is still scheduled to open the season on September 5 at home against South Florida.
