Texas Lands Highest Rated Recruit Since 2002

NCAA Football: Texas at Texas Tech

It is no secret that there is plenty of high school talent in the state of Texas. And of course, no matter the record on the field, the Texas Longhorns are always going to land top talent not just in the state of Texas, but around the country.

As they sign top ten class after top ten class, there has been plenty of five-star talent come to Austin. Now whether they pan out is one thing, but nobody doubts the talent they bring in.

But it appears that Texas reached a new level on Friday as 2022 five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers (Southlake, Texas) committed to the Longhorns. Not only is Quinn the number one player in the state of Texas for the 2022 class but he is the number one player in the country according to 247 Sports.

Quinn has a ton of offers from the likes of Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and many others but he chose the Longhorns. While a five-star commitment is always a big deal in the recruiting world, there was something that was a bit shocking considering what Texas has brought in over the last twenty years. Quinn Ewers is the highest ranked recruit for Texas since Vince Young back in 2002.

Much like Vince Young, Quinn is the number one player in the country. However, Quinn still has two years of high school left. Obviously, things could change between now and 2022 but this was still a huge pickup for Texas and Tom Herman.
